Grant Guidelines

Eligible organisations

The Foundation is bound by the provisions of The Jack Brockhoff Foundation's Trust Deed. The Foundation can only consider applications from organisations that are endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as a 'Deductible Gift Recipient' (DGR) and as a 'Tax Concession Charity' (TCC). Evidence of a current endorsement from the ATO is required to accompany a grant application.

Priority Funding Areas

  • Children and Youth
  • Health and Medical
  • Community Development and Support

Applications are invited from eligible organisations who meet the following criteria:

  • Have a broad community reach and profile;

  • Demonstrate sound management and service excellence in meeting clients’ needs;

  • Have a high degree of community and/or volunteer involvement;

  • Connect their operations with the community they seek to assist; and

  • Benefit people residing in Victoria.

The Foundation is particularly interested in providing seed funding for new projects. This is especially the case where the project’s objectives will potentially deliver sustainable, medium to long-term benefits for the broader community. Applications for projects which involve partnerships with other non-for-profit organisations working collaboratively to address a community need are encouraged.

Funding Exclusions

In general, the Foundation will not fund the following:

  • A project designed to benefit a single person or individual family;

  • Programs undertaken outside of Victoria;

  • Programs which duplicate existing Government programs;

  • Capital works on land not owned by the applicant organisation;

  • Operating expenses (including salaries, rent of premises, outgoings, etc.);

  • Funding of an operating deficit;

  • Conferences or seminars;

  • Travel or transport costs;

  • General fund raising campaigns or special events;

  • Annual appeals;

  • Programs/projects offered for the exclusive benefit of a religious or political group;

  • Conservation; and

  • As a general contribution to the corpus of another grant making organisation.

Declined Requests

The value of requests the Foundation receives always exceeds its available funds. Therefore, the Foundation is unable to support many very worthwhile projects. Sometimes but not always, the Foundation asks that an application be resubmitted for consideration at the next round of grant decisions, perhaps with additional material in support of the application.

Organisations which receive a grant from the Foundation must wait a period of 12 months before applying for another grant.

How to apply for a Grant

The Foundation requires proposing applicants contact the Foundation’s staff to discuss their project/program prior to submitting their application. A discussion about the proposed project/program can provide an opportunity for the Foundation's staff to offer guidance as to the preferred content and presentation of your application.

All grant applications must include the Grant Application Form (links below) together with a response to each question listed.

Information required

The Foundation expects applicants to articulate their long term goals and to demonstrate a strategic plan and operational objectives to best address their clients' needs. Well managed and efficient operations are highly regarded.

The Foundation supports an environmentally sympathetic application process and encourages double-side page printing and a concise response to each question asked.

Due to the requirements for accompanying information, emailed applications are not accepted.

Photographs, newsletters, DVD’s, pamphlets etc. are only to accompany applications where they are integral to the explanation of the project/program for which funding is sought. Information supplied in support or explaining a project/program will generally not be returned, even if the application is unsuccessful.

Only one (1) copy of the application is required. Please do not waste resources on presentation folders, binders and the like.

The Foundation will acknowledge all applications via email to the contact person as nominated on the Grant Application Form, usually within ten days of receipt.

Please use the checklist provided to ensure all of the required information has been supplied. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
